Life insurance policies are contracts (policies) that will pay a specified sum to beneficiaries upon the death of the insured. Health insurance policies are contracts (policies) that will pay a specified sum to beneficiaries in relation to healthcare expenses of the insured.

Abnormal operating expenses are not to be excluded or shown separately, but included in the relevant category. Policy acquisition items are prior to any component deferred to either policy liabilities or a deferred acquisition cost asset.
