This is the value, during the relevant period, for the total operating expenses classified in accordance with the requirements. They include- policy acquisition and maintenance expenses;- investment management expenses; - acquisition expenses reported as movement in policy liability; - other administration expenses;- interest expenses; and    - general insurance expenses. 

Abnormal operating expenses are not to be excluded or shown separately, but included in the relevant category. Policy acquisition items are prior to any component deferred to either policy liabilities or a deferred acquisition cost asset.
